Bah, she never made that statement. That was Tina Fey. Gov Palin's quote was "they're our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in AK, from an island in AK." She's been unfairly credited with Fey's joke to make her look dumb.

These are Aussie Huntsman spiders. Scary looking, but harmless. The ones you need to worry about are the Syndney Trapdoor spider, the Black Wishbone Spider, and the Australian Redback Spider. Those're frikking deadly!
