AMERICAN BADASS - demotivational poster
Samuel Whittemore was an American farmer and soldier who at 78 years of age became the oldest known colonial combatant in the American Revolutionary War. Whittemore, then 80-years-old, was working in his fields when he spotted an approaching British relief brigade. He loaded his musket and ambushed the British Grenadiers from behind a nearby stone wall, killing one soldier. He then drew his dueling pistols and killed a grenadier and mortally wounded a second. By the time Whittemore had fired his third shot, a British detachment reached his position; Whittemore drew his sword and attacked. He was shot in the face, bayoneted 18 times, and left for dead in a pool of blood. He was found by colonial forces, barely alive, trying to load his musket to fight again. He was taken for medical treatment, and the doctors gave no hope for his survival. However, Whittemore lived another 13 years until dying of natural causes at the age of 96.

"I think all the D’s are bad - drudgery, drone, dismay, depression. We do ourselves such a disservice in this country when we portray work in that way... We’ve waged war on work. We have collectively agreed, stupidly, that work is the enemy." ~ Mike Rowe
