No one's sure. Christianity did it's best to erase all trace of this religion. It happens underground with Mithras looking toward Sol Invictus (The unconquered sun) Animals of other constellations help him kill the bull.

This was not some small cult. Over 400 Mithraea (underground temples) have been found with over 700 depictions of this scene, called the Tauroctony.
