Consumption? How long ago was that?

'Consumption' was the name they gave tuberculosis. It was HIppocrates who actually gave cancer a name, although physicians had known of its existence for a long time, even then. Greeks referred to cancer as 'karkinos'...

'Consumption' meant end-stage tuberculosis, when the disease actually consumed the lungs. The term was broadly used Over time, the various cultures of the world gave the illness different names: yaksma (India), phthisis (Greek), consumptione (Latin)

It figures that other countries would discover and try to eradicate cancer before America. The US was too busy with other frivolous endeavors; specifically building the A-bomb. But that's interesting, didn't know that.

And when we have easy cures and preventatives for all forms of cancer, nature will find new ways to kill us in the form of diseases we previously did not live long enough to develop.

You are so right, Cloud. It doesn't take Nostrodomous to see that something worse than the ebola virus is slowly incubating on this planet. And like 1918, all it's going to take to activate it is a little sneeze.
