She usually bakes whole wheat bread, but today she made a half dozen loaves out of white flour.
It was early autumn and the tomatoes in the garden were dead ripe. Rosy, juicy beef steak tomatoes.
I lightly toasted eight thick slices.
Carved several generous wedges of tomatoes.
A hint of butter, a light blade of mayo, and a dash of salt and pepper.
We got real messy with those mater sammiches.
The sweet tea didn’t hurt.
I toasted eight more slices.
My buddy still talks about it.
