The highest estimators include Katrina rescue and repair and other unrelated military actions. The low ones a**ume that recruiting would have been the same w/out the war. Both are wrong, so the reality is anyone's guess.

So, in my informed but non-professional opinion, when the stimulus bill was passed, this moti was almost certainly true. Now, they nearly break even, with the war probably being slightly higher. I sourced NYT, WSJ, NBC, and others.

Haar, as usual, cuts to the meat of the conversation. Unfortunately, which one is more depends on who you ask. Everyone uses different figures for estimating the cost; the low estimates are about 600 bil, high 1 tril, and most frequent about 800 bil.
