You see each time the "Doctor" get seriously injured he has to regenerate and in doing so he takes on a new form and personality. Talk about flawless story telling in my opinion.

Actually 2 hearts. And yes he's a Time Lord AKA time traveller who uses a TARDIS (It's looks like a phone booth) to travel through time. ANd come to think of it David Tennant is no longer Dr. Who. Since Jan 1st it's Matt Smith now.
